Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Janodel handles personal data under the GDPR and other applicable privacy laws.

Effective 31 October 2026

1. Controller and contact

Janodel is an online matchmaking service based in the Netherlands. Website: https://www.janodel.com. Contact: support@janodel.com.

For privacy questions or requests, email support@janodel.com. If Janodel appoints a Data Protection Officer or EU representative, those details will be published here.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data, including email address, authentication records, language, consent records, and account identifiers.
  • Profile and matching data, including age, location, relationship goals, lifestyle, preferences, questionnaire answers, priorities, and dealbreakers.
  • Profile photos and selfies submitted for manual comparison with profile photos, verification outcomes, and any historical ID documents. New ID uploads are disabled. A selfie approval is not guaranteed identity or age verification.
  • Introductions, decisions, messages, reports, blocks, moderation records, and support communications.
  • Purchase and credit records. Stripe provides payment status and transaction references; Janodel does not receive complete card or bank credentials.
  • Technical and security data, including IP-derived country, device/browser information, timestamps, request logs, and anti-abuse signals.

3. Sensitive data and explicit consent

Partner-gender interests together with gender identity may reveal sexual orientation; cultural background can reveal ethnic origin, and religious or spiritual answers reveal beliefs. Certain intimacy and cultural answers can also be sensitive in context. Ordinary lifestyle, work and education answers are not automatically special-category data. The acceptance screen explicitly describes sensitive questionnaire use for matchmaking and requests your consent through its clearly labelled acceptance button. General Terms acceptance alone is not treated as sensitive consent. The button does not grant new sensitive-sharing permission; existing sensitive-sharing choices remain unchanged.

You can withdraw sensitive processing or sharing consent without deleting your account by contacting support@janodel.com. Changing a consent choice does not automatically erase saved questionnaire answers; deletion is handled as a separate request. Withdrawal stops the affected future use and disclosure and does not invalidate earlier lawful processing. Ordinary questionnaire answers remain visible to authorised unlocked participants. Matching functionality may be reduced or unavailable without consent to the sensitive information needed for eligibility; you can retain your account and contact support.

4. Legal bases and why we use data

  • Contract: to create and secure your account, show the app, manage credits, process purchases, provide private introductions, enable messages, and operate core service features.
  • Consent or explicit consent: to process sensitive questionnaire or preference data where required, separately to share sensitive answers under your optional choice, to send optional marketing, and to use optional cookies or analytics if introduced.
  • Legitimate interests: to prevent fraud, detect abuse, moderate content, protect users, improve security, respond to support requests, and defend legal claims.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with tax, accounting, consumer-protection, law-enforcement, sanctions, safety, and regulatory duties.
  • Vital interests or public interest may apply in rare emergencies where necessary to protect someone from serious harm.

5. Matching, profiling, and recommender transparency

Janodel uses questionnaire and profile information to score compatibility and order potential introductions. Main parameters may include age eligibility, location, gender interests, relationship goal, cultural background, family and religious preferences, education, career, lifestyle, sports/activity level, smoking and alcohol preferences, conflict style, emotional needs, boundaries, dealbreakers, and user-selected priority weights.

Scores are heuristic questionnaire-similarity indicators, not scientifically validated predictions of a relationship or marriage. Eight dimensions are displayed; the overall score also includes age and location fit. Beliefs and culture share a priority bucket. Introduction scores may be snapshots of answers at the time of assessment, while profile answers can subsequently change. Ordinary recommendations are not intended to make legally or similarly significant decisions. Human review is used for final introduction approval and may nominate pairs with preference conflicts; you can ask support about a recommendation, correct answers and update priorities.

6. Who receives data

  • Hosting, database, file-storage, security and service-delivery providers process the application data needed to operate and protect Janodel.
  • Authentication and account-infrastructure providers process sign-in information. Payment processors handle purchases, payment status and fraud prevention. Email-delivery providers support account and service correspondence.
  • An AI-assisted administrative drafting provider processes text entered by staff, without automatic access to user records. Staff should not include unnecessary identifying or sensitive information.
  • Bot-protection services help prevent abuse. If you choose third-party sign-in or browser notifications, the relevant sign-in or device-notification provider processes the information needed for that feature. Push notifications contain a generic update, not private message content.
  • The other participant in an unlocked private introduction receives your first name, age, photos, shareable profile details and ordinary questionnaire answers. Sensitive answers and detailed compatibility results are shared only under your separate sharing choice. Account email, phone number, surname and exact birth date are excluded.
  • Professional advisers or competent authorities receive information only when legally necessary and subject to appropriate safeguards. Contact support@janodel.com for information about the actual recipients and applicable transfer safeguards.

7. International transfers

Providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Transfers require an applicable adequacy decision or another lawful mechanism, such as Standard Contractual Clauses and supplementary safeguards where necessary. Contact support@janodel.com for information about the countries, recipients and safeguards applicable to your data and how to obtain a copy.

8. Retention

  • Account and profile data are retained while the account is active and then deleted or anonymised when no longer needed, subject to legal and safety exceptions.
  • Account-deletion requests are processed without undue delay. Deletion from live systems does not itself establish when provider backups or security logs expire; contact us for the applicable recovery and retention periods.
  • Payment, tax, and accounting records may be retained for the legally required recordkeeping period.
  • For a manually approved starter-credit grant, a keyed fingerprint of the account email and the approving administrator is retained for up to 180 days to help prevent repeated claims after account deletion. It is not a facial fingerprint and is not used to reconstruct a deleted profile. Referral records link an inviter to an invited account to award credits after approved onboarding; we do not import the inviter's address book.
  • Reports, blocks, and moderation records may be retained as needed to protect users, prevent repeat abuse, resolve disputes, and meet legal duties.
  • Selfies and historical ID files must be limited to verification and specifically justified safety, dispute or legal needs. Do not assume approval immediately deletes the file. Contact support to request deletion or ask which material is still necessary; operational retention periods require documented review.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent. You may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority or your local supervisory authority. See Data Rights / GDPR for instructions.

10. Security, children, and changes

Janodel uses server-side access controls, administrator MFA, encryption in transit, security headers and upload validation. Private messages are not end-to-end encrypted. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Janodel is for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. Contact us if you believe a minor has provided data.

We will post updates here and provide additional notice for material changes when required.

11. Data Protection Impact Assessment

Sensitive matching, unilateral unlocking, verification and deletion require a documented privacy-risk assessment. This public policy does not certify completion of an internal DPIA or provider-contract review; questions can be sent to support@janodel.com.
